Field notes are maps that aren't finished yet
Every field note is a map that ran out of time. The sketch is rough, the ink smudged, and the real place is still out there, moving.
Rough is the point
Don't wait until you can draw. Draw now, while the place is still surprising you. That's the version you can't fake later.
Finish later, or never
Some notes deserve the full sheet. Some deserve to stay a smudge. Both are maps. One of them is more honest.
