Districts

Neighborhoods with their own grain and color.

The places

Districts are the grain of a city — old town, docklands, the hill, the flats. Each one has its own hatch and its own color.

How to shade them

old town fine hatching, warm
docklands blue wash, horizontal
the hill green, contour-stippled
the flats open, almost blank

Rule of thumb

Shade the difference, not the detail. A district is a feeling, not a fence line.
